Often within a day or two. What sets the timing: the cemetery's schedule, Shabbat and Jewish holidays (Jewish cemeteries generally don't hold burials then), the death certificate and burial permit, and family who need to travel. Waiting for close family is common. The funeral home will tell you the earliest time that works.
2 Jewish funeral homes are documented in the region: Chicago Jewish Funerals in Buffalo Grove; Goldman Funeral Group in Buffalo Grove. Each page lists what is documented about tahara, shomer, Shabbat and holiday practice, and what remains an open question.
Whether plots are currently available and to whom (members, the public, or pre-sold only); who may be buried there, including interfaith and section rules; costs in writing — plot, opening and closing, perpetual care, monument; and which funeral home the cemetery works with. Every cemetery on EverJewish can be asked directly from its page, and questions marked "planning ahead" carry no urgency.
Tell us once what you're looking for — how many plots, which section, your timeframe — and the Jewish cemeteries near you answer on EverJewish: availability, what's required, and pricing with payment plans. Offices that have joined answer in their own words; for the rest, your page shows what is on record and their number. No calls until you choose.
EverJewish documents 31 Jewish cemeteries across Chicagoland, reaching approximately 45 miles from Chicago into Illinois and Indiana. These are spread across 20 towns, beginning as close as Forest Park and Broadview and extending to suburbs such as Vernon Hills and Hammond. Twelve of these are standalone Jewish cemeteries; another twelve are Jewish sections within larger community cemeteries. Five have detailed listings compiled from their own public websites. Availability has not yet been confirmed for any of the 31 cemeteries, so families should contact each cemetery office directly to ask about current openings, section options, and procedures.
The region includes cemeteries with congregational and burial society affiliations. Because EverJewish lists each site independently, families can compare locations, review whatever documentation is available, and reach out to the offices that best fit their needs. Cemetery offices are welcome to confirm their details with EverJewish at no cost, which helps families find accurate information during a difficult time.
Two funeral homes serving the Jewish community are also documented: Chicago Jewish Funerals and Goldman Funeral Group, both in Buffalo Grove. This guide is intended to help families begin their search with facts on file; families will need to confirm plots, costs, and requirements directly with each cemetery or funeral home.
EverJewish is an independent reference documenting Jewish funeral homes and cemeteries in the United States. Free for families; the record is never for sale. No rankings, no paid placement (how we're funded). We never sell family information.
